EKO Scholarship application deadline extended due to COVID-19

Deadline extended to June 30

DATE: April 20, 2020: Empowered Kids Ontario-Enfants Avenir Ontario announced today that the application deadline for the EKO Scholarship program is extended to June 30 to accommodate secondary school students who have been clients of an EKO member agency and are interested in pursuing college, university or career training programs.

The extension comes at a time when schools and community programs are facing challenges including limited operations due to the coronavirus pandemic. The additional six weeks are designed to assist candidates in providing documents, such as letters of recommendation, that are required to complete their application for consideration.

For almost 10 years, EKO-EAO has awarded scholarship support to students with disabilities pursue their education and career goals. Applications for this program have typically been accepted in the spring, but this year will be accepted through June 30.

This year each scholarship will award $2,000 toward tuition and fees to as many as five qualifying, remarkable young people. Selection criteria includes demonstrated leadership in school and/or in their community, a personal statement, and recommendations by school and community mentors. 

Since the program launched in 2011 close to 50 young Ontarians have been named EKO Scholars.
