The glass and colourful exterior shines from the lights within against the dark sky.The New Grandview Kids—The Jerry Coughlan Building—is the first, newly built, stand-alone developmental health centre to open its doors in more than a decade. Serving the Durham Region—already one of the fastest growing regions in the world and projected to grow by almost 40 per cent between now and 2046—the new headquarters for Grandview Kids is state-of-the-art. Features include a welcome playground, sunken garden, a gymnasium for both therapy and play, a therapy pool, and an outdoor therapy terrace. A Family Resource Centre includes a branch of the Ajax Public Library. The centre also hosts its own café and a 0.35 kilometre outdoor sensory trail. The entire facility and outdoor areas are fully accessible.

The new building is an open, welcoming and inclusive community-based paediatric facility, offering an integrated mix of rehabilitation, medical and clinical services as well as education and research activities. With the future in mind, the New Grandview Kids was designed and built with the capacity to expand and enhance existing services and introduce new ones to continue meeting the rapidly growing demand of its community.

The centre just opened less than six months ago, in November 2024. If you haven’t visited yet—and even if you have—you’ll want to take in the fabulous design of Ontario’s newest developmental health centre in action.
