Digital Communications Specialist - parental leave

This role is a key member of the Empowered Kids Ontario team, working with the EKO team and colleagues across the province.

The Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for creating and delivering our day-to-day social media as well as marketing output across the EKO website including the Members’ Portal. This includes collecting and analyzing metrics, media monitoring and social media monitoring and reporting, internal communications, and project management.

Our audiences include EKO members, government colleagues, elected representatives, stakeholders in developmental healthcare, healthcare, education, and other sectors across both provincial and federal jurisdictions.

Your insight and expertise will increase our reach and impact across our digital channels and help us achieve the association’s strategic objectives.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a deep interest in children’s healthcare, and great enthusiasm for digital communications and social media, showing strong writing skills and creative marketing ideas.

This is a 10-month contract covering for parental leave.

Main responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to create compelling and engaging content in a variety of formats in line with our communications strategy and brand guidelines
  • Manage the content planner, scheduling content to optimize engagement and meet organizational objectives and timelines
  • Conduct day-to-day management, monitoring and content creation for EKO’s social media accounts on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X, and BlueSky
  • Use of analytics to evaluate and improve website, content, and digital marketing performance
  • Managing the public website and EKO Members’ Portal
  • Working with brand guidelines and external designers to produce on-brand assets
  • Managing various third-part contracts with marketing, PR and accessibility programs
  • Organizing and managing EKO’s network of communications colleagues through scheduled meetings and information/resource sharing

Skills

  • Extensive experience in a digital communications or marketing role
  • Experience of creating compelling content for digital and social media channels
  • Management of social media channels in a professional capacity
  • Use of a CRM system
  • Experience of website publishing using a content management system
  • Ability to produce visual digital content using tools such as Canva
  • Experience meeting and exceeding online accessibility standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and confidently for a variety of audiences
  • Excellent editorial and proofreading skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Strong people skills, with the ability to develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritize a wide range of demands and requirements, showing resilience and adaptability
  • Excellent IT skills with the ability to use digital software such as Microsoft 365, Canva, Sprout Social and Adobe programs (Photoshop, Premier Pro, InDesign)

EKO team members work both remotely and in person. The association is Toronto-based, and applicants must be living in the GTA and able to work in the office at least one day/week. 

The position begins with two days/week from April 1 to May 23, 2025 and is full time from May 26, 2025 to January 4, 2026. The position will extend two days/week from January 5th to January 23, 2026.
