Selection Criteria


Selection criteria for the EKO Scholarship Program includes demonstrated leadership in school and/or in their community, a brief personal impact statement including career and educational goals, and recommendations by school and community mentors. In addition, a letter from the EKO member organization where the applicant received services and/or supports is required to verify the applicant’s eligibility for the scholarship award.*

Applicants must also submit a personal impact statement of up to 500 words explaining they are strong candidates for the scholarship. This statement should describe, in their own words:

  • What they hope to achieve in their post-secondary studies
  • Career aspirations
  • Goals they have set and achieved in the past
  • Barriers or challenges they have overcome
  • Community engagement and/or involvement in extra-curricular activities
  • Examples that demonstrate their leadership
  • Any other information that will be helpful to the Selection Committee

* Please ask for this letter a few weeks in advance. The clinician or administrator you ask will be grateful to have time to prepare the letter. If you are no longer in touch with a clinician at the centre where you received services, please contact the centre main number and ask the receptionist for assistance.
