Applications Due May 10th for 2019 EKO Scholarships

The Empowered Kids Ontario (EKO) Scholarship Program provides academic and career training support for young adults who are enriching their lives through community and extra-curricular activities. The program recognizes the personal triumphs of youth who tackle the responsibilities associated with rehabilitation services. Recipients have accomplished what their peers strive to do: succeed and pursue life’s challenges.

“The EKO Scholarship is one of the ways our association is empowering kids with special needs so they can reach their education goals and career dreams,” says Jennifer Churchill, CEO of Empowered Kids Ontario.

The EKO Scholarship supports students who have been clients of one of Ontario’s 21 Children’s Treatment Centres, and contributes to the cost of their college, university or career training programs. Applications for the EKO Scholarship will be accepted online through May 10, 2019.

As many as five awards of up to $1,000 are available to qualifying students this year. Applicants must have been a client of an Ontario Children’s Treatment Centre. Selection criteria includes demonstrated leadership in school and/or in their community, a personal statement, and recommendations by school and community mentors.

Since the program launched in 2011 Empowered Kids Ontario has invested $43,000 in education grants to students with special needs. The Empowered Kids Ontario Scholarship Program was established to recognize youth who demonstrate exceptional leadership skills and volunteerism in the community, and have benefited from services and supports offered by a Children’s Treatment Centre. To date 43 students have received support through the EKO Scholarship Program.
